The beauty ideals for women in Elizabethan times was alabaster skin, ruby red lips, thin eyebrows, and a high forehead. Very little, if any, color was applied to the cheeks. Pale skin signified a woman of nobility, perpetually sheltered from the sun, with an abundance of servants to perform all the necessary functions of daily life. Tanned skin was for peasants laboring in the fields.

In the Elizabethan era, mercury was a common ingredient in makeup. At that time, it was used to clear the skin of spots and wrinkles, much like today's acne treatment is designed to do. However, the mercury was not treating acne; it was in fact removing the skin and corroding the flesh! If someone found that method didn't work, they might have mixed birch sap, elder leaves, and sulfur, applied it to their skin at night and removed it in the morning. Other forms of skin cleansers were made from urine, rain water, donkey's milk or red wine. If all this failed, bring on the leeches!

To achieve her signature, porcelain look, Elizabeth's favorite cosmetic was 'Venetian ceruse', a mixture of white lead and vinegar. The queen powdered her face and neck with the substance, transforming her skin into a porcelain canvas, slowly poisoning herself in the process.

To keep that tiny waist and show off one's best stomacher, women would swallow tapeworms that would digest most of the food they'd eaten.

Yes they are! Generally, the more time it spends on land, the closer it will be to 5 calories than 4. The estimate was actually based on frogs and tadpoles, I had to make an educated guess.

My best source was a feeding chart from a reptile food website which sells whole small prey for consumption by snakes. It perfectly lists out the values of dozens of small animals, but no fish. So I took a note of the 4 calorie estimate, observed that an adult frog increases in calories compared to tadpoles (bucking the trend with the others on the list where younger animals are worth more caloric value) and went on to do more research

I couldn't find a source that broke down WHOLE prey caloric value like the chart, so I ended up comparing caloric value between rabbit fillets, chicken fillets, and fish fillets on human-centric nutrition websites. My hypothesis was mostly consistent, even with more species added. Fish (perch, flounder, pike) < Wild Mammal (rabbit, squirrel) < Poultry (chicken, turkey, quail). There was overlap between "classes", certain fish getting over the 100 hump, but generally there was a trend I boiled down into 4/5/6

This is consistent with how a lot of fish meat is actually water. In fact, cats quench a lot of their thirst from the food they eat. I also learned some very interesting stuff about the fat distribution in fish which is going to blow a bit of a hole in some of my Clan culture stuff lmaoooo, but I'll furiously swim across that obliterated bridge when I get there

But funfact! Fish oil is rendered fish fats and it is the form that unsaturated fat takes, whereas lard is what saturated fats become. I need to do more research into this topic to understand what kind of difference it would make in a wild cat's diet.

There was one big bucked trend though: salmonid meat was WAAAAY higher in fat and calories. Like, absurdly high. Like 150 cal trout fillet vs 110 cal of rabbit fillet vs 88 cal of perch fillet.

I do not know why that is. My guess is that maybe it's because they were taking the number from farmed salmonids? Maybe it's because they're particularly fatty fish? Perhaps this is just the raw power of salmon slammin'.

Anyway, at one point I was trying to estimate exact caloric value per popular prey species, but decided I didn't have the "backing" to get so exact with the numbers since I was doing estimates with the fish. I'll do the work if it comes down to it, but for now, 4/5/6 is a quick, easy guideline you can use for just about any WC project.

Today's fish of the day is the the Pelagic thresher shark!

The pelagic thresher, also known as the pacific common thresher shark, scientific name Alopias pelagicus, is a common thresher shark. Found along the tropical and subtropical waters in the Pacific and Indian ocean, stretching from South Africa to The West Coast of America. Like other thresher sharks, the pelagic thresher inhabits the open ocean, occasionally coming close to the continental shelf near coral reefs, and seamounts. Seasonally, they migrate North and South, to follow warmer waters. Pelagic threshers are the smallest species of thresher shark, and despite being visually similar to their relatives they can be differentiated by the dark pigment above the pectoral fins and the rounded fin tips.Similar to other threshers, the teeth are smooth and small, with 20-22 teeth per jaw, curved inward to trap prey inside their mouth.

Due to their medium size, the pelagic thresher is predated on by many larger predators. Primarily larger sharks, orcas, and other toothed whales that share an area. They are known to have tapeworm parasites and copepods in the skin. This leads to the symbiotic relationship with cleaner wrasses, who eat their parasites. The pelagic thresher's diet consists of small prey along the mesopelagic zone, primarily lightfishes, barracudas, flying fishes, herrings, squids, and mackerels. This keeps them from competing with other oceanic predators in their size range, such as tuna, billfish, and other sharks. They hunt similar to other thrasher sharks, by swimming tight circles around a school of prey, until they condense. Then, striking with the upper caudal fin tip lobe of the tail to stun. This long tail is often the cause for plegic threshers getting hooked as bycatch for other fishing efforts, specifically having issues with longlines.  Although several commercial fisheries go out of their way to hunt for plegic threshers, leading to their status as endangered.

Just like all other mackerel sharks, the pelagic thresher shark is ovoviviparous, meaning they have young kept in eggs within the mother, and when they hatch, they are born live. Similar to other thresher sharks , the pelagic thresher gives birth to two pups at a time, one per each uterus. They have no defined breeding season and the gestation period is unknown, but assumed to be similar to the year gestation period of common threshers. Pups are born surprisingly large, at about 5 feet in length. As compared to the sexually mature adult size of about 10 feet, the largest recorded being around 11feet. Maturity is reached at around 9 feet in length, which is usually around the 8th or 9th year in females, and around 7-8 years in males. Their lifespan is about 28 years in females, possibly longer, whereas male threshers get the short stick, living only 17 years in comparison.

I think that twoards this end maybe a Flesh avatar (and maybe corruption. i'm a very corruption minded girl). someone young and with an intense hatred of their own body. They do everything possible within their power to make themselves look like they want to. They do increasingly fringe and dangerous fad diets, cut away undesirable parts of their body, eat tapeworms, etc... They are prolific in online eating disorder forums (I was gonna name an analogous person here before remembering that most people are unfamiliar with ED forum microcelebrities lol), post bodychecks often, run challenges. None of these are intended to cause harm. they are very common posts on these kinds of fourms. But the people who view her bodychecks, or who participate in her challenges, they end up with some kinda statement-worthy experience. People who interact with her end up having horrible things happen to them, that in some way relate to the specifics of the interaction. Now on ED forums, something you see regularly and learn to fear, is that people die. You are almost always worrying that a friend will drop dead any day now, and always remembering those that were lost. It's honestly an exceptionally awful experience. Most websites are graveyards, 10-20% of the members having stopped logging on one day. Depressing context aside, I feel like this girl would regularly as an avatar die of her disorder. She posts something cryptic and then the mods make an announcement that she was found dead 3 days later. And then a new user will show up, with similar manerisms and very quickly becomes well known and well liked. This forum has no shortage of high profile users dying off (except it's mostly her). Kind of desolation-ish to pull on the forum's collective fear of loss. Finally I think she would be the type to attract ana-coach/fetishists, who are drawn to her by being marked/and or by the flesh going after the hunt, or just unwitting victims This helps with the likeability aspect because these men are vile and ruin many lives and deserve to have a flesh/corruption statement happen to them.
